I have really had a desire to improve my gardening knowledge and thought this book would help me out. When I started reading it I couldn't put it down. It is very well written and has ton's of wonderful tried and true gardening info in it, not to mention lots of recipes for concoctions you can make at home to use on your garden, your lawn , and your houseplants. When you finish this book you will almost want to give Grandma Putt a big kiss on the cheek. This book and Dick Raymond's book " Joy of Gardening " have rocked my gardening world .....

Very, very helpful for anyone starting out their own garden. Many really great lessons on how to do it right. I like that he doesn't use chemicals in his gardening. The whole reason I started a garden this year is to have plenty of chemical free, organic vegetables. He gives you lots of gardening concoctions that you can make from items in your kitchen to help the soil and keep bugs and disease at bay.

We have a large garden and I love the easy to-do suggestions for everything from greater yields, ridding the garden of pests, and end of the season tips. Would recommend this to anyone whatever size garden they grow.

this is a comprehensive -- all types of gardening -- book. not only do you learn about lawns, flowers and vegetables, but also herbs, fruit-bearing trees and bushes and trees in general. Includes many recipes for use in gardens. I like it best because jerry focuses on what his grandma putt did in her garden to make it great -- and he tells you simply and clearly what to do in your garden to make it great too.

Even thought I am originally from New England, over the years I have I generally enjoy most of Sunset's gardening guides and this is no exception.The book is geared to the California gardener, not really to gardening in the "West". In that regard it was helpful for us (we just moved to Northern California) but it would be of little use to someone gardening in Nevada or Arizona. I am delighted with the information I've gleaned from the book as it is appropriate for our needs, but it would probably be helpful to have that referenced in the title of the book.

This book is not what I expected, i.e. instruction, suggestions for planning and implementing a landscaping project, and some pictures. This book is pretty much pictures with little to none teaching material. Also, I found just one picture representing my USDA zone. The pictures are lovely, and a few of them can be adapted (a lot) by changing plants, which is the only reason I didn't return it.

Beautifully illustrated book of ideas for western/dry country gardens. Lots on hardscaping, architectural design as well as the use of plants. Sections of fire-resistant plants, privacy and pets are especially appreciated, considering the region in focus. The section on the latter is thinner than I would have wished, but still very good. A fine, overview of western gardening with many interesting and practical ideas for planning, building and planting.

This book arrived quickly, perfectly packaged.. Thank you !I was expecting something else..Needed to get more how-did-we-do-this-types of landscaping but instead the book is beautiful pictures..Will have some great fans from those who want expressly this..

All Western Garden books are good and this is no exception! Still reading it...and I love ALL of my western garden books. I especially love all of the pictures and design ideas in this book!

I took 1 star away because, as you can see from my pictures the bottom line is too big. The line gap shohld be that size at the top where you would write a heading not at the bottom. A great cookbook from London with gorgeous photos. Recipe measurements are in metric, so for us U.S. citizens it makes for a test in conversions.

I read about this book in one of my magazines & bought three. Two for family & one for myself. Looking forward to using it. Recipe photos are bright & colorful.

Overall this is a very attractive book however there were two basic problems with making their pizza recipe at home. First is on page 14 where the Yeast Version of the pizza dough is outlined. To make 640g dough it says to use 250ml lukewarm water, 0.2g dry yeast, 1 desertspoon olive oil, 380g flour, 10g salt. That seems like a lot of salt (10g) and a tiny amount of dry yeast (0.2g). The amount of yeast is so small that it can't possibly be right, can it? I'm happy to stand corrected if 0.2g is correct but then I'd like to know how you can measure 0.2g of dry yeast easily in the home kitchen. As a result, I ditched the book and went back to using my old pizza dough recipe. The other thing is that the authors suggest leaving the dough in an ambient temperature of 20-25 (degrees)C for 16-18 hours. This would be ok to do in a pizza restaurant but in the home situation in a cooler climate, how could this be achieved without heating the house to the required temperature for that period of time? In short, those two problems with the basic pizza dough recipe really detracted from what is a wonderfully produced book.

This book is seemingly a compilation of dive locations frequented by dive resorts, with little independent research or reviews of specific dive outfitters. The book lacks basic information on water temperatures, currents, winds and seasonal influences. The independent traveller primarily interested in snorkeling will also be disappointed in the lack of practical information on the best sections of the main islands for shoreline snorkeling.

Simple no-nonsense guide to diving in Fiji

This is an attractive book which the scuba diver will want to order. It maps and describes 74 of Fiji's top dive sites and the color photography is excellent. Despite the title, however, those interested in beach-based snorkeling will find little of use here as almost all of the sites included are accessible by boat only. Even the new Waitabu Marine Park off Taveuni is mentioned only in passing. There's virtually no practical resort or restaurant information, and the first quarter of the book is devoted to brochure-style hype you can read on almost any Fiji website. Critical reviews of dive facilities are strikingly absent, so this book is of no help in selecting a specific scuba operator. Five pages of listings in the back of the book provide basic contact information, but even this is out of date as all Fiji telephone numbers have increased from six to seven digits since the book was published. Most of the email addresses are also wrong, so substitute @connect.com.fj whenever you see @is.com.fj. Nevertheless, when one considers the cost of a scuba tour to the South Pacific and the lack of any alternative Fiji dive guide, all of the above criticisms are mute and serious divers will click this title straight into their shopping carts.

As a master diver who has dived since 1956, and has visited many of Fiji's dive sites, I can heartily recommend this book to anyone contemplating diving Fiji. The Mahaney - Witte team- authors, photographers and dive tour guides well-known and respected in the diving community- are knowledgeable and credible. Mind you, NO book can ever catalogue ALL of Fiji's diverse and innumerable dive sites... but this book is well planned, has a very good selection of sites- rated for conditions and experience levels- and information for the would-be Fiji diver. The book has some maps, and a visual feast of photos. In summary- going to Fiji to dive? Be prepared for stiff currents, and a kaleidoscope of colorful fishes and soft corals... and BUY THIS BOOK! Dive well and safely.

I bought this book primarily because I am going to Fiji in two months and wanted info on snorkeling. Boy was I surprised to find only half a page devoted to snorkeling. The rest of the book is a brief description of various dive sites.The book does have nice pictures and basic information regarding the more popular dive sites in Fiji. But as a snorkeling reference, it is worthless.

I am afraid I was sorely dissapointed by this book. I brought the book hoping for not only a list of dive sites but also the exact latitudes and longitudes of the dive sites. The book only had very vague maps that were lucky to get you within 2 miles of the dive site.Whats the point of giving you all that information on a dive site except how to get there!!! All the information in the book (except the coordinates of the dive sites) is just as easily obtained from the local dive companies, so I simply dont see the point in purchasing the book.About the only good thing was it allows you to plan dives before you even get to Fiji. The book only had 3 dive sites listed for the Yasawa Islands - which have lots of good dive sites.Given the book was published in 2000 and I was in Fiji in 2009 I guess the book is basically getting quite dated now.Dive sites like Gotham City, which got its name after the Bat fish that live there, no longer seem to have any Bat fish. Sad but possibly a factor of the age of the book and locals who have been eating the bat fish?

I am a private math tutor and author of A Guide to the Math SAT. I use this book with my students because the College Board only publishes four practice test in their book The Official SAT Subject Test in Mathematics Level 2 Study Guide and four practice tests just are not enough.The first test in this book is mostly new, with some problems borrowed from earlier editions, and the second test in the book is unchanged from earlier editions. I appreciate PR updating their books, but not when changes introduce errors. This is what I found so far:Problem 10: The solution in the book uses substitution to solve this whereas I attempted to solve it using algebra. I think PR got lucky here with their substitution value because their answer choice is not correct in general.Problem 15: There is a typo in the answer key. The correct answer is (D).Problem 20: There is a mistake in the question. If the question reads "which of the following must be false" then the answer choice is (E). Unfortunately the question reads "which of the following must be true."Problem 32: There is a typo in answer choice (A). It should be f(-1) not f(1). The typo results in two correct answer choices.

I have already stumbled 3 errors in the first 15 questions of the first practice test (e.g. Math is done wrong, no correct answers choices are given or similar).

Wrong answer key, formulas, theorems can easily throw you off. I hope they fix their mistakes.

There are many faults within the book’s practice test’s questions and their answer explanations. This can lead to frustrated math problem solving as you are unable to find answer choices that actually work. I would suggest Barron’s Math Level 2.

I am a student who very often has to study for standardized test -- and often I have made the mistake of purchasing princeton review books. These books, while they are informative and mostly accurate, include a ton of mistakes in the questions or their practice tests. For example, if you look at page 25 on this very book, in question 4 you would see two of the same answer choices. And this isn't limited to these books, they also range throughout thier selection such as thier Ap biology and their Biology SAT books.

Helpful to my son for the Math 2 SAT exam.
